Giant launches Local Produce Boxes program

Giant Food has begun selling boxes of locally sourced fruit and vegetables online for on-demand delivery.

Called Local Produce Boxes, the program offers locally grown, in-season produce for order through GiantFood.com and fulfilled by the Giant Delivers service, Landover, Md.-based Giant said Tuesday. The boxes carry a retail price of $20 and contain six or more items from local farms in Maryland, Virginia and Delaware.

Giant said the Local Produce Boxes will be available throughout the summer without a subscription or purchase commitment. Items will vary
